How to play Football Grid

Football Grid is the football grid: every day a 3×3 board — the same one worldwide — where each row and each column is a criterion, and every cell asks for a player who fits both. You get 9 guesses for the 9 cells. Free, no sign-up, runs in your browser.

The rules, in 30 seconds

  1. Read the grid. The three rows are clubs; the columns can be a club, a country or a position.
  2. Tap a cell. It crosses the row criterion with the column one.
  3. Name a player who fits both — type and pick from the list.
  4. Mind your 9 guesses. A miss costs one, and no player can be used twice.

What a crossing is

If the row is Barcelona and the column is Brazil, the cell asks for a Brazilian who played for Barcelona. If the row is Milan and the column is Goalkeeper, it asks for a goalkeeper who was at Milan. And when both are clubs, it asks for someone who wore both shirts — the most fun crossing, and the hardest.

Every cell on the grid has at least eight possible answers, and at least one of them is a well-known player: a grid is only published after we check that it closes. You will never hit a cell with no solution.

Which names count

Players from our list who spent time at one of the clubs on the grid — hundreds of them every day, from all-time greats to today's stars. Careful: being on the list does not mean the player solves any cell. The list is there so you can type a name, not to hand you the answer. Managers are out: the grid asks who played.

FAQ

When does the grid change?

At midnight, in your device's local time. Everyone plays the same grid on the same day.

Is my progress saved?

Yes, in your browser — and separately from the other games: each one keeps its own stats and streak.

Does sharing spoil the answers?

No. The text is only the grid squares and the score, with no player or club names.

Are there other games?

Two: Craque Oculto, where you guess the player of the day from their career club by club, and Football Wordle, the player's surname in 6 tries.
