The rules, in 30 seconds

  1. Check today's length. The word has 4 to 9 letters, and the challenge says how many before your first guess.
  2. Type a footballer's surname and press Enter — on-screen keyboard or your own.
  3. Read the colours and try again, combining what you know.
  4. Solve it in 6 tries. At the end, the game reveals whose name it was.

What each colour means

✔ green the letter is in the word and in the right spot. ≈ yellow the letter is in the word, somewhere else. ✕ grey the letter is not in the word.

Repeated letters follow the classic rule: if the word has a single N and you guessed two, only one lights up — that is how you work out how many times each letter appears.

Which names count as guesses

Any footballer from our list with today's number of letters — thousands of them, from all-time greats to today's stars. The name a player is known by counts: Zidane, Salah, Kane, and also one-word names like Pelé, Cafu or Zlatan. Accents don't count: words use A to Z only, so Pelé is typed PELE.

Is my progress saved?

Yes, in your browser — and separately from Craque Oculto: each game keeps its own stats and streak.

Does sharing spoil the answer?

No. The text is only coloured squares and the score, with no letters at all.

Yes: Craque Oculto, where you guess the player of the day from their career, club by club, in 8 guesses.
